(MPI) – On February 14th 2017, at the headquarters of the MPI, Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong authorized by the Minister awarded the Medal “For the cause of Vietnamese Planning and Investment” to Ms. Ritsu Nacken, Deputy Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam to recognize her contributions to the development of this sector.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong highly appreciated the close collaboration between UNFPA and Vietnam and her contributions. As UNFPA Deputy Representative, Ms. Ritsu Nacken significantly contributed to population, health care and people’s social security of Vietnam particularly and Vietnam – UNFPA cooperation generally.
On behalf of the MPI, Deputy Minister Nguyen The Phuong awarded the Medal “For the cause of Vietnamese Planning and Investment” to recognize her contributions to the development of this sector. He congratulated and hoped that Ms. Ritsu Nacken would continue being successful and contributing to Vietnam’s development.
At the ceremony, Ms. Ritsu Nacken expressed her honor to get the Medal and thanked the MPI for the warm feelings and assistances during her tenure in Vietnam. She also confirmed to support and help Vietnam on the new position if she could./.
UNFPA has collaborated with Vietnam since 1977 through 9 fiscal periods in the form of national programs. Thereby, the United Nations awarded Population Award to Vietnam in 2000 for the first 4 national programs (1977-1996).
From the next national programs to date, UNFPA has been supporting Vietnam in population according to the goals of Programme of Action of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
The 9th national programs (2017-2021) started in January 2017 to support such major fields as youth development, population & development, prevention of domestic violence and gender equality.
UNFPA has also supported Vietnam to carry out DaO initiative.
