Minister Nguyen Chi Dung receives Minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark
(MPI) – On May 4th 2017, at the headquarters of the MPI, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung had a meeting with Ms. Ulla Tørnæs, Minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark and her delegation visiting and working in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Ulla Tørnæs expressed her delight in visiting Vietnam again and congratulated the socio-economic development achievements of Vietnam in the last time. She highly appreciated development cooperation and its outcomes for trade and investment collaboration of the two countries. Two-way trade turnover has increased two times since 2012. There are 130 Danish enterprises investing and doing their business in Vietnam now. Danida Business Finance funds suitable scale projects to use modern technology of Denmark, provides preferential loans for Vietnamese businesses, becomes opportunities for Danish enterprises to cooperate and invest in Vietnam.

Ms. Ulla Tørnæs emphasized four Vietnam - Denmark strategic cooperation fields including health, education, environment, food hygiene and safety. Regarding environment, Denmark is considered as a green and sustainable development country, using renewable energy making up 70%, processing waste into an efficient energy source… Thereby, she believed that advantage fields of Denmark would help Vietnam resolve difficulties in the process of socio-economic development.

In the framework of this visit to Vietnam, Ms. Ulla Tørnæs attended the opening of Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) Round Table taking place in Ha Noi to promote the partnership and cooperation for the green global goals. She also informed that Partnership for global green growth vision 2030 is expected to be announced officially at the regular session of General Assembly of the United Nations in September, New York.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung agreed with the ideas and opinions on cooperative orientations and highly appreciated bilateral comprehensive partnership and Danish aids for Vietnam. He also desired to further promote the collaboration between the two countries while the Vietnam – European Union Free Trade Agreement signed in the end of this year, will bring many opportunities and benefits for the both countries and regions. Many advantages of Vietnam to attract FDI capital, such as the central location of ASEAN, market with over 90 million of population, cheap labor… in combination with modern technology and experience sharing of Denmark will create opportunities for businesses of the two countries to invest and collaborate.

As for development cooperation, non-refundable aid of Denmark Government for Vietnam has been used effectively, contributing to socio-economic development. Vietnam is a middle-income country but at a low level, facing such difficulties as poverty, regional disparity, climate change, big gap with other countries in the region. So, Vietnam hopes to continue receiving Danish assistances by non-refundable aids, preferential loans and financial programs of Denmark. Besides, Vietnam also needs the lessons learnt, knowledge, development model on the above-mentioned fields, assistances for private sector, SMEs, coping with climate change, renewable energy, green growth… At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung confirmed the attention and agreement of Vietnam for programs, forums on global green growth and his desire to further promote collaboration on economy, trade, investment particularly and bilateral diplomatic relations generally./.
