Vietnam – Kanagawa Business Seminar
(MPI) – On July 13th 2017, Vietnam – Kanagawa business seminar took place in Ha Noi. Deputy Minister of the MPI Nguyen Van Trung attended and spoke at the Seminar. There were Mr. Yuji Kuroiwa, Governor of Kanagawa, Japan and representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, JETRO Office in Ha Noi, businesses of the two countries and media agencies.

Strengthen extensive strategic partnership

Vietnam – Japan relations have been being developed extremely well, in the first half of 2017 many important events have been taken place such as the official visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Vietnam on January 2017, that of Japanese Emperor Akihito and the Empress on March 2017, that of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to Japan on June 2017… Those demonstrated the bilateral friendship and political determination of the leaders of the two countries in order to strengthen Vietnam – Japan extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

Speaking at the Seminar, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Trung said that Japan ranks first among partners providing bilateral ODA now, ranks second among foreign direct investors and ranks forth among commercial partners of Vietnam. Up to date, Japan has invested 3,443 projects in Vietnam with more than US$ 46 billion of registered capital. With the positive signals of bilateral cooperation, Vietnam believes that investment capital of Japan to Vietnam will continuously rise in the time coming. Vietnam appreciates the pioneering of Japanese businesses in development, technological innovation, serious and responsible business and respecting the law. The investment and business of Japanese enterprises have contributed to socio-economic development and economic restructuring of Vietnam’s localities.

In order to strongly and effectively develop the cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in general and Vietnam and Kanagawa in particular, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Trung outlined some contents to discuss and share in terms of investment, trade, tourism. Regarding investment cooperation, Vietnam encourages firms of Kanagawa to invest in six priority fields in Vietnam’s industrialization strategy within Vietnam – Japan cooperation framework, infrastructure, projects in the form of PPP, port services, logistics, biotechnology, health, environment, supporting industry… In terms of trade, Vietnam desires Kanagawa to open market for agricultural products, seafood, consumer goods of Vietnam. Besides, Vietnam always welcomes high quality and technology products in exact mechanics, health, electronics… made in Kanagawa.

The Deputy Minister also affirmed that the MPI will accompany with and facilitate Japanese businesses generally and Kanagawa ones particularly to invest and do their business in Vietnam.

New investment trend of Vietnam businesses to Japan

Mr. Katsurro Nagai, Envoy of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam said that Vietnam’s economy has started a new period, integrated into regional and international economies. Investment of Japanese firms to Vietnam will contribute to development, improvement of competitiveness of Vietnam, exporting to world market. Vietnamese businesses have tended investing in Japan recently in terms of service and IT. Vietnam – Japan Joint Initiative launched in 2003, since then Japan has collaborated with Vietnam’s agencies raising their opinions, ideas to improve business climate.

Governor Yuji Kuroiwa presented business environment and investment potentials of Kanagawa and hoped that Kanagawa will be considered as an attractive destination because of its favorable factors and conditions. Kanagawa’s population is 9.1 million and gross provincial income is US$ 275.9 billion. Kanagawa has got abundant human resources, the most amount of scholars and researchers of Japan. Besides, it locates nearby the two big airports of Tokyo and owns three developed special economic zones, where the biggest corporations of Japan come to invest.

Governor Yuji Kuroiwa said that Kanagawa had got golden population structure but it’s forecasted to be older one by 2050. This is a big problem of Kanagawa to resolve, especially in health issues and the risk of breaking health insurance fund. Against this backdrop, the province has been developing modern health system and health support devices.

Vietnam – Kanagawa Business Seminar was an opportunity for enterprises of the two countries to discuss, connect and actualize their potentials to effective cooperation and investment in the future./.
