(MPI) - On January 24th, the 5th annual meeting of the Vietnam-France Annual Senior Economic Dialogue was held in Hanoi. Mr. Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France and Mr. Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment of Vietnam co-chaired the meeting.
This meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of the annual dialogue between Vietnam and France. This is a starting event of the symbolic year that marks 5 years anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership and 45 years of bilateral relations between Vietnam and France.
The 5th Vietnam – France Annual Senior Economic Dialogue with the participation of the departments, branches, and enterprises from both countries mainly focused on issues such as civil aviation, monitoring systems, wholesale market, transportation infrastructure, etc.
At the Dialogue, the two sides merrily shared the achievements in trading relations between the two countries ($ 4.6 billion, up 11.6% as compared to the same period in 2016), most of which resulted from Vietnam exports to France. Both sides emphasized the opportunities in promoting economic and trading relations as well as the advantages in penetrating the market for the two countries that the Free Trade Agreement between Europe and Vietnam will offer.
Both sides exchanged views on projects involving French businesses in Vietnam. A number of projects have received support from France Official Development Assistance (ODA), with more than € 2 billion of disbursements in the last 10 years, showing the importance of Vietnam – France development cooperation. In ODA projects, the pilot urban railway project of Hanoi - line 3 is worth to be mentioned. This is a symbolic project for French-Vietnamese cooperation. All French ODA projects are related to the strategic development branches of Vietnam in the coming years and through these projects, France is always willing to share the advanced experiences that French’s enterprises have accumulated and developed in fields such as transportation, energy, environment, space, food, banking, etc.
At the Dialogue, the two sides exchanged information on difficulties in market penetration, particularly in the food sector, although there were still some obstacles, the sector has achieved positive results in the last time. At the same time, both sides appreciated and delighted to the Food Expo exhibition success which France is the guest of honor./.
