(MPI) – On May 23, 2018, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung had a meeting with the British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV), led by Giles Lever, the UK Ambassador to Vietnam.
At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said that Vietnam and the United Kingdom have been strategic partners since 2010, this is a crucial basis for bilateral relations development in all fields, including investment. At the same time, he highly appreciated the contributions of the UK’s businesses into the socio-economic development process of Vietnam. However, the investment of the UK in Vietnam is still modest, incommensurate with the advantages and potentials of the two countries. Accumulated until May 20th, 2018, the UK ranked at 15th over 126 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 336 valid projects and a total amount of registered capital of 3.53 billion USD, focused in the fields of processing, manufacturing, real estate business and mining.
Vietnam currently assembles many favorable conditions, becomes an attractive investment destination in Asia in particular and in the world in general with a convenient location, strongly improving the investment environment, infrastructure, human resources, the international economic integration participation more deeply and widely and highly appreciated by the international community.

Especially, Vietnam is formulating and will soon promulgate the Law on Special Administrative-Economic Zones Van Don, Northern Van Phong, Phu Quoc with many outstanding policies in order to create a favorable institutional environment, an attractive, united procedure. This will create opportunities for foreign investors to seek chances, expand investment in Vietnam, through that, help creating growth poles for the areas and the whole country. Minister Nguyen Chi Dung wished that the UK’s businesses will strengthen cooperation in promotion activities regarding investment, trade, tourism, infrastructure development, education, training, finance, banking, etc. At the same time, he asserted that Vietnam is willing to boost the bilateral cooperation relation with the UK and continue to facilitate convenient conditions for the UK’s businesses in approaching market, investing, doing business in Vietnam.
Ambassador Giles Lever thanked Minister Nguyen Chi Dung for taking time to welcome the Business Group and highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts in improving the investment and business environment, facilitating conditions for the foreign enterprises to invest in Vietnam. Ambassador Giles Lever wished in the coming time, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the British’s business community in Vietnam continue enhancing dialogue to improve the coordination and business information sharing, in order to support commercial organizations and enterprises, as well as facilitating conditions for enterprises from both sides to seek opportunities for investment cooperation, through that, contributing to boosting the bilateral cooperation relation between the two countries./.
