Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong meets with Governor of Gunma Province, Japan
(MPI) - Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong had a meeting with the Governor of Gunma Province, Japan Yamamoto Ichita on November 5, 2019, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

At the meeting, Governor Yamamoto Ichita delivered his thanks to Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong for the reception and said that foreigners in general and the Vietnamese community in particular had become an important part of the socio-economic development of Gunma province, Japan. Governor Yamamoto Ichita emphasized that the Gunma provincial government always respected and created good conditions for Vietnamese people and people from other countries living and studying in the Province.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong congratulated Governor Yamamoto Ichita on his new assignment in Vietnam and highly appreciated the development cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan. He also expressed his gratitude to Governor Yamamoto Ichita and the Gunma provincial government for constantly paying attention to and supporting Vietnam in the process of socio-economic development as well as backing businesses of the Province to invest and do business in Viet Nam. Currently, Japan is the biggest official development assistance (ODA) provider, the third largest tourism partner and fourth largest trading partner to Vietnam.

According to a JETRO survey in 2018, 65% of Japanese businesses in Vietnam is profitable, and 70% of businesses has a desire to expand their business. This shows that Vietnam continues to be an attractive investment destination for Japanese enterprises to choose and is a recognition for Vietnam's efforts to improve the business investment environment over the past time.

“Gunma is granted with the advantage of being one of the leading localities in industrial development in Japan. Vietnam in general, the Ministry of Planning and Investment in particular, hopes that the Gunma provincial government will continue to support businesses located in the province, promoting investment cooperation in Vietnam in the coming time, especially in the areas where the province has strengths such as auxiliary industries, high-tech electronic component manufacturing, manufacturing industry, high-tech agriculture, training, etc.", Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong emphasized.

At the meeting, Governor Yamamoto Ichita thanked the information shared by Deputy Minister Vo Thanh Thong, and affirmed that in his new position in Vietnam, he would continue to make active contributions to strengthening the economic, trade and investment cooperation as well as mutual understanding with the Vietnamese community in Gunma province. Thereby, the activity would contribute to promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in general and between Vietnam and Gunma in particular./.

Gunma Province, located in close proximity to Tokyo, Japan, is one of the localities with strong potential for economic development. The province’s GDP reached 8,198.7 billion yen (about US $81 billion) in 2018, with strengths in manufacturing of transport equipment, food, chemical and plastic production, etc. The province is a place, where enterprises specialized in manufacturing components and important parts of aircraft engines, rockets, car manufacturers such as Honda, Toyota, Nissan reside. Currently, the province has 44 enterprises investing and doing business in Vietnam.
