Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong meeting with Chief Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office
(MPI) - On August 31, 2020, at the head office of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong met with Chief Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi Richard R.C. Shih.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Richard R.C. Shih thanked Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong for taking the time to welcome the delegation.He also put emphasis on the cooperation relationship between the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam and hoped that Vietnam and Taiwan would work together, inherit and promote the results achieved in recent years with the efforts of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Mr. Richard R.C. Shih said that Taiwanese enterprises have successfully invested in Vietnam since 1990, mainly in the field of processing and now they enter into the second wave of FDI. He hoped that Taiwan would be more successful with large-scale projects using high quality technology in the second wave after the successes achieved in the first wave.Currently, Taiwanese enterprises are implementing the investment restructuring plan and Vietnam has been selected as an attractive investment destination.Taiwanese businesses want to invest in Vietnam in the fields of electronics, high technology and support Vietnamese businesses to develop together.

Mr. Richard R.C. Shih also said that, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic still progressing very complicatedly, the two sides looked into opening flights for professionals and businesses to work, do survey, study, and learn investment needs in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong highly appreciated the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi and Mr. Richard R.C. Shih for having active and efficient activities in Vietnam.He also said that Taiwanese investor's activities have contributed to Vietnam's socio-economic development, especially in recent times, when the Taiwan Government has a Southbound strategy and Vietnam is part of that strategy.With its functions and duties, the Ministry of Planning and Investment will work closely, accompanying the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi to support Taiwanese businesses to operate efficiently in Vietnam.Vietnam always welcomes investors, being willing to coordinate to realize investment cooperation opportunities, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong emphasized.

Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong shared that the second wave of Taiwan's investment is in line with the orientation of the Vietnamese Government.The Government has directed ministries and line ministries, including the Ministry of Planning and Investment, to offer all favourable conditions for foreign investors who have desire to restructure their investment in Vietnam.Vietnam recognizes the successes of Taiwanese businesses in the first wave and welcomes businesses to invest in the high-tech sectors.He also sent his thanks to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi for organizing meetings to gather the difficulties and problems faced by Taiwanese businesses when investing in Vietnam and hopes that the office will share this information so that the Ministry of Planning and Investment can advise the Government of Vietnam, study and propose policies to resolve difficulties and problems for investors.
