Minister Nguyen Chi Dung meets Canada’s Minister of International Development

Minister Dung welcomed Ahmed’s proposal to choose Vietnam as the first country to visit, and said that the Government of Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen the Vietnam - Canada comprehensive partnership. He also expressed his appreciation for the support of the Government and people of Canada during Vietnam’s poverty reduction process.

The minister said that in the socio-economic development strategy for the 2021-2030 period, Vietnam strives to accelerate its economy structure towards green and inclusive growth. This is an ambitious and challenging goal for Vietnam that requires the international community’s cooperation.

Vietnam is strived to purse sustainable economic growth, commit to the international community and share responsibility for the green planet, he added. As the national advisory agency on green growth for the Government, Minister Dung said that his ministry is having concrete action to create social awareness, classify criteria for green growth, build policy mechanisms and incentives for green growth, identifies prioritised pilot projects, seek resources, apply innovation, science and focus on human resource training.

Minister Dung suggested developed countries, including Canada, share experiences with Vietnam in developing new technology, manpower training and green finance so as the country implement well its national commitments.

Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy clearly demonstrate their priority in foreign policy is in the Asia-Pacific region, of which Canada considers Vietnam as a one of leading partners and a bridge to the region.

Canada is willing to support Vietnam to achieve its sustainable development goals, he said. As a country with experiences in developing policies and in new areas such as renewable energy, green economy and wish to cope with climate change, Canada stands ready to support and partnership with Vietnam and in the implementation of poverty reduction, sustainable development, fight with plastic pollution and striving to realise net-zero emissions by 2050./.
