(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong on August 13 hold a working session with the delegation of executive directors from the Asian Development Bank led by Charlotte Justine Diokno Sicat, Executive Director in charge of Kazakhstan, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, and Timor-Leste.

Charlotte said that this visit is part of the ADB Executive Board’s routine four-yearly working visits, planned to engage with leaders from various Vietnamese ministries, including the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
The visit aims to discuss ADB’s activities in Vietnam and explore opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two sides. Discussions will also cover experiences in economic recovery post-pandemic, new economic models, climate change responses, and energy transitions among other topics.
Deputy Minister Phuong highly appreciated the ADB’s role in supporting economic cooperation among the countries in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).
He also lauded ADB’s active coordination with various ministries, localities in Vietnam to promptly improve and adjust to accelerate the investment process.
ADB currently has numerous ongoing projects in Vietnam and is one of the most enthusiastic partners offering effective support in sectors such as transportation infrastructure, irrigation, energy, and notably in poverty reduction in remote, border, and island areas, as well as in healthcare and education development. These support areas align with Vietnam's socio-economic development strategies and plans.
ADB projects in Vietnam are linked with national priorities such as addressing climate change in sectors like electricity, transport, and agriculture, promoting just energy transition (JETP) towards net-zero goals, and providing technical support and policy consultation.
Both sides at the working session discussed issues related to driving economic development in Vietnam with a focus on promoting traditional growth drivers and new growth dynamics. They also addressed three strategic breakthroughs of Vietnam related to institution, infrastructure, and human resource development linked with restructuring the economy and innovating growth models, and fostering development based on science, technology, innovation, and the cultural values of the Vietnamese people.
Vietnam hopes to further strengthen cooperation with development partners, including ADB, to secure more resources for investment, the deputy minister noted./.
