GWEC is an international organization representing the global wind energy industry, comprising more than 1500 leading member companies and organizations in the renewable energy sector, especially wind energy. In Vietnam, GWEC has a series of activities contributing to offshore wind power development and cooperating to help agencies in building offshore wind power potential. It also organized conferences on offshore wind power development and building of offshore wind power potential for ministries, departments and businesses in Vietnam.

GWEC’s member companies at the meeting presented their ideas to support Vietnam enhancing the offshore wind power industry while developing the marine economy and supporting industries in the coming time. Benard Casey, Development Director of Mainstream Renewable Power in Vietnam, expressed his delight and thanked the Ministry of Planning and Investment for welcoming the delegation. Mr. Casey informed that many GWEC members currently had an orientation towards the expansion and development of the global energy transition, and especially expected to strengthen the cooperation to promote the development of the offshore wind power industry in Viet Nam.

Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong highly appreciated the suggestions contributed by GWEC. He also put emphasis on Vietnam's policy on developing renewable energy and attracting foreign investment in this sector, thereby using domestic energy resources efficiently, ensuring the energy security, implementing international commitments on environmental protection and climate change mitigation and sustainable socio-economic development.

With regard to electrical energy, including wind power, Vietnam is currently completing Vietnam Power Development Plan in 2021-2030 with a vision to 2045. At present, offshore wind power projects in Vietnam are still in the stage of study, which are mainly located in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan provinces where possess favourable sea conditions, for examples deep seaport, good wind-chart, suitable meteorological conditions with no storms. These projects may be developed and operated in 2026-2030, depending on the speed of technology development, high energy needs and wind power potential./.
