Minister Nguyen Chi Dung works with the Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic
(MPI) – Minister Nguyen Chi Dung received Mr. Sengphet Houngboungnuang, Ambassador of Lao People's Democratic Republic to greet on the occasion of receiving tasks in Vietnam on January 14th 2021, at the head office of the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang thanked Minister Nguyen Chi Dung for taking the time to welcome the delegation and highly appreciated the Minister’s devotion for Lao People. The Ambassador shared that it was his honour and pride to be entrusted by the Government and Lao people as assigned to work in Vietnam. The Ambassador stated that he would continue to work and contribute to promoting the relationship between Laos and Vietnam during his term of office.

The Government of Vietnam, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee have always paid good attention to the socio-economic development of Laos. Particularly, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Committee have provided support in building economic development plans for Laos. The Ambassador underlined that this valuable support would be considered being integrated into the socio-economic development plans of Laos.

The Ambassador informed that both countries had signed numerous important documents at the 43rd Meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. This indicates Vietnam Government’s continued support to Laos’ Government and people. Both countries believed that signed agreements would be implemented effectively.

Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang highly appreciated the achievement that the Ministry of Planning and Investment had attained under the leadership of Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam. In 2020, Vietnam still achieved positive growth despite the world economy was severely affected by Covid-19 pandemic. The Ambassador believed that Vietnam would become a high-income country by 2045 at this growth rate on its 100th anniversary of Independence.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung congratulated Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang on his term of office in Vietnam and believed that he would contribute to promoting Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, culture, defense and security.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung wished the 11th National Congress of Lao People's Revolutionary Party success, and the Party would continue to make the country thrive and prosper.

Vietnam will make priority on human resources training for Laos though remaining numerous difficulties. Vietnam will continue offering scholarships to Laos’ government officials and students to study in Vietnam annually, increasing ODA by 10% to support some programs and projects proposed by the Lao Government in the 2021-2025 period.

Vietnam will also maintain support to Laos by sharing experience in macroeconomics stabilization, sustainable development, businesses environment improvement, promotion of cooperation in culture, science, information and communication.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hoped the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam would receive the assistance from the Ambassador in coordinating the implementation of high-level cooperation agreements between the two Parties and the two Governments in the future, thereby nurturing the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in general and the two Ministries of Planning and Investment in particular./.
