(MPI) – The Ministry of Planning and Investment coordinated with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Vietnam to organize the Consultative Conference on Child-related SDGs Assessment Report Draft on October 15th, 2021.

Nguyen Thi Dieu Trinh, as Deputy Director General of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment under the Ministry of Planning and Investment said that Vietnam has issued the Action Plan for the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda under the Decision No. 622/QD-TTg dated May 10th, 2017 by Prime Minister on implementing international commitments. In which, 17 SDGs and 115 specific targets towards 2030 have been set out with main tasks divided into two periods of 2017-2020 and 2021-2030. Especially, the direct participation of all stakeholders from ministries, line ministries and localities to political, social, professional, domestic and international organizations has been emphasized in the Action Planin building and implementing Vietnam’s SDGs by 2030.
The Action Plan has assigned the MPI to be the national focal point in the implementation of SDGs by 2030 to enhance the planning capacity and monitor factors that focus on children's rights. UNICEF has supported the MPI in implementing the Project of “Supporting the implementation of children’s rights by integrating them into the socio-economic development plan”. One of the Project’s key goals is to support the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, which focuses on the child-related SDGs indicators.
In the framework of this Project, the MPI deploys research, analysis and evaluation of the implementation of the child-related SDGs, in which the stakeholders jointly conduct three major contents: Reviewing and evaluating the implementation results of the child-related SDGs; Analyzing the shortcomings, obstacles and challenges in the implementation, care and protection of children's rights in Vietnam over the past period; and Specifying solutions to realize children's rights in the process of implementing the SDGs. This activity has contributed to providing important input information in preparing the 2020 National Report and the 5-year progress of the implementation of the SDGs was reported to the Government and the National Assembly.
Ngo Quynh Hoa, as Head of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME), UNICEF in Vietnam stated that investment in the early years of children will create important premise for later intellectual development and contribute to the comprehensive development of children and the society. The comprehensive development of children must be reflected via critical indicators in the progress towards the SDGs achievement.
At the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Health; Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; and the Institute for Sustainable Development, Office of the National Assembly have jointly exchanged and discussed to a comprehensive view of child-related indicators such as clean water for children in rural areas; comprehensive healthcareand mental health for children; tuberculosis of children, COVID-19 pandemic, re-poverty, children's rights to live in a clean and safe environment, disabled children, etc.
As a national focal point in the implementation of SDGs, the MPI acknowledges all delegates’ comments to complete the information, feasible proposals and recommendations to promote the children-related SDGs by 2030.
