(MPI) - The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) coordinated with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam to hold a meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee for the “Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Promotion and Industrial Development” project on December 06th, 2021.
Le Manh Hung, Director General of the Enterprise Development Agency, under the MPI spoke highly of Japan's support to Vietnam through this project. The Project’s objective is to promote the capacity of SMEs, especially those in supporting industries such as automobile, electronics, and mechanical engineering. It is also anticipated that the Project will make adjustments in line with the actual situation, spreading activities to help enterprises gain more benefits in the coming time.
At the meeting, Tomoyuki Yamada, the Project’s Chief Advisor presented the progress of input activities of the Project; achieved results of output performance indicators; evaluation of the production management workshop and pilot training program; essential measures to complete the Project's objectives and unachieved output indicators; as well as some obstacles. As stated by Tomoyuki Yamada, the Project had completed the preparation of specific implementation activities. Based on the established criteria among 149 SMEs, the Project has selected 30 SMEs that met the criteria, visited 12 SMEs to handpick 10 final SMEs. The key activity for 2022 are concrete and direct actions on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on the preparation completed in 2021.
Discussing at the meeting, delegates from the Department of Planning and Investment of Hanoi, the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, etc. suggested that the Project support in establishing and training an expert network so as to be proactive in helping SMEs and helping consulting activities, periodically updating the project progress to boost its implementation. If succeeded, funded SMEs shall become role models for other domestic enterprises, gaining trust for others to join. The Project is expected to network enterprises from Vietnam and Japan to jointly uplift industrial development, especially for supporting industries.
Concluding the meeting, Director General Le Manh Hung suggested that JICA should consider on changing its activities to be more flexible in the current context. Amid the COVID-19, it is necessary to strengthen activities such as online training, online connection, focusing on training for consultants and supporting the Business Gateway./.
