Expert-level meeting of the 44th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos
(MPI) - To prepare for the 44th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Bilateral Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, on the afternoon of January 09th, 2022, an expert-level meeting of the cooperation committee between the two countries was held under the co-chairing of Tran Quoc Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos cooperation committee and Viengsavanh Vilayphone, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Laos-Vietnam cooperation committee.

As stated by Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong at the opening ceremony, the meeting aimed to assess the implementation of the Agreement on Vietnam-Laos Cooperation plan in 2021 and to discuss the direction of cooperation in 2022. It was also to exchange and agree on the draft contents of the Agreement on the Vietnam-Laos Cooperation Plan in 2022 and the Meeting Minutes to submit to the two Prime Ministers at the 44th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong believed that, on the traditional spirit of goodwill between the two peoples, the expert delegations of the two countries would carry out effective and positive solutions to propose to the two Prime Ministers, making an essential contribution to enhancing Vietnam-Laos cooperation in the new period.

Viengsavanh Vilayphone, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Laos-Vietnam cooperation committee expressed his gratitude in accompanying the Lao delegation for their visit in Vietnam to prepare for the 44th Session co-chaired by the two new Prime Ministers. Vice Chairman Viengsavanh Vilayphone believed that the 44th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee would be successfully organized based on the responsibility and careful preparation of the two delegations, as well as on the traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

At the meeting, the two sides focused on evaluating the results of cooperation in 2021, specifically in national defense-security, economy, trade and investment, education and training, human resource development and other fields. Especially, the two sides carefully assessed objective and subjective causes to address the reasons of limitation and to provide solutions, thereby creating an attractive investment environment for Vietnamese investors to entrust their money to Laos and vice versa.

Under the drastic direction of the two Governments, the proactive coordination and deployment of ministries, line ministries, unions, localities and enterprises, the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement in 2021 has contributed to the stability and development of each country, continuing to consolidate and strengthen a closer and stronger tie between Vietnam and Laos amid the complicated and unpredictable situations in the region and the world, particularly under negative impacts posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the basis of assessing the achieved results, difficulties and challenges in 2021 and the forecast for 2022, the two expert delegations have agreed on some contents to submit to the two Prime Ministers, striving for the successful implementation of the goals set forth, and bringing practical developments for cooperation relations in all fields between the two countries in the future.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong spoke highly of the contents prepared by both delegations, emphasizing that the delegates basically agreed with the document contents, especially the assessment report of the 2021 Plan implementation and orientations in 2022 to submit to the two Prime Ministers. It is anticipated that the secretaries of both delegations and representatives of ministries and sectors continue to receive suggestions to complete the document contents and meeting minutes for the proposal to the two Chairmen of the Committee./.
