Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc works with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Vietnam
(MPI) - On the afternoon of February 16th, 2022, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc worked with Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Vítezslav Grepl and the Board of Directors of Skoda Joint Stock Company to discuss on cooperation and investment in an automobile factory in Quang Ninh province.

Chairman of Quang Ninh Province People’s Committee Nguyen Tuong Van, the Head of Management Unit of Quang Ninh Economic Zones Hoang Trung Kien, and leaders of relevant units under the MPI also attended the meeting.

Ambassador Vítezslav Grepl thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc for taking the time to welcome the delegation and said that Skoda company was looking to establish modern manufacturing lines within its factory in Quang Ninh, bringing positive impacts to the Vietnamese economy in general and Quang Ninh province in particular, and giving the latest technology to contribute further to Vietnam’s auto industry.

Ondrej Cerny, Director in charge of Russia and new markets of Skoda Company informed about the project and its construction stages, stating that the project was expected to be put into operation in 2022. In order for the project to achieve the planned targets with efficiency, Skoda wished to receive support and facilitation from the Vietnamese Government, ministries, branches and Quang Ninh province.

As stated by Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, as of date, there were 44 Czech projects invested in Vietnam with a total capital of over USD 91 million, ranking the 48th among 141 countries/ territories investing in Vietnam. To utilize the massive potentials for cooperation and investment between the two nations, Vietnamese Government anticipates and encourages Czech investors to consider their operation in Vietnam. The Deputy Minister also expressed her appreciation to Ambassador Vítězslav Grepl for being a connection to promote Skoda Company to study the possibilities of investing in Vietnam.

Throughout nearly 35 years of investment attraction, following the recent economy scale and practical demands, Vietnam has entered a new stage in terms of foreign investment attraction. Vietnam encourages projects with high and advanced technology and added value, especially wishing foreign investors to connect, cooperate and use products and services of Vietnamese for mutual benefits.

The MPI welcomed and appreciated Skoda Company for choosing Vietnam as an investment destination. Currently, more than 141 countries and territories have been investing in Vietnam with more than 34,000 projects and a total registered capital of USD 416 billion. This shows that Vietnam has a potential market, advantages in geopolitics and especially a friendly business and investment environment.

Some issues were stressed on by Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, including: personnel, partners, support of ministries, branches and localities in the implementation of the Project; the prospect of investment in the automobile industry in Vietnam; development strategy of Vietnam’s automobile industry; Vietnam’s commitments at COP26 with a commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. In order to achieve the goals, Vietnam is developing an implementation project, which promotes fuel-saving and environmentally friendly technology.

The Deputy Minister suggested that Skoda Company, with its rich experience, would share experiences, transfer technology, strengthen links, and support Vietnamese businesses for high efficiency in production cooperation during its deployment of the project in Vietnam. It is anticipated that Skoda would support Vietnamese enterprises to participate in the global production supply chain in the near future and consider establishing an R&D center in Vietnam, especially focusing on electric vehicle models, so as to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and environmental protection of Vietnam./.
