Restoring the economy and Developing supply chain in the new normal
(MPI) - On February 21st, 2022, the Annual Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) 2021 took place under the co-chairing of Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, World Bank (WB) Country Director Carolyn Turk and Acting Country Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Amy N. Luinstra. The forum was honored to be attended and directed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung at the opening said that in 2021, Vietnam has achieved remarkable and positive results in various fields despite unpredicted difficulties and challenges compared to the previous years. The business investment environment has improved continuously. Foreign direct investment capital attraction is recovered. Innovation, e-commerce, digital transformation, digital technology application, cultural industry, new business models and activities are gaining more attention and thrive strongly, extensively and intensively.

Considerable contribution from the business community, domestic and foreign investors were made to achieve this encouring results. This is an essential premise for Vietnam to confidently enter 2022 as a year of special significance, creating a foundation to implement the goals of the 5-year plan for the 2021-2025 period.

At the Forum, international organizations and business communities focused on discussing the business community’s contribution to the economic recovery and the role and responsibility of enterprises in the development of a stable and sustainable global value chain. They also assessed the domestic and foreign enterprises’ position in the supply chain and ways to improve the capacity of domestic manufacturing and supporting industries, thus develop industry clusters and value chains, increasing linkages between foreign-invested enterprises and domestic enterprises. The business community highly appreciated the strong recovery of Vietnam under the steady direction and drastic commitments of the Government.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed the appreciation towards the enthusiastic opinions and responsibilities of international organizations and the business communities to Vietnam. The reviews are objective and realistic about the achievements, difficulties and problems of Vietnam.

The Prime Minister reviewed the innovation process over the past 35 years and the achieved results in 2021. He expressed his gratitude towards the valuable supports of international partners, businesses and investors for Vietnam. He also sympathized with the difficulties, problems, losses, disadvantages and sacrifices of businesses, business associations and international organizations that both the world and Vietnam has suffered due to the pandemic.

Emphasizing the tasks in 2022, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam would implement a master program on pandemic prevention, recovery and socio-economic development. The program will focus on groups of key tasks and solutions such as opening up the economy in accordance with investment in enhancing health capacity, disease prevention and control; ensuring social security and employment; supporting the recovery of enterprises, cooperatives and business households; investing in infrastructure development for important, urgent and pervasive projects; speeding up institutional and administrative reform and improving the business investment environment.

As a developing country going through various intense battles, difficulties and obstacles, Vietnam calls for fairness and justice in the process of green transition and anticipate to continue to receive support from the international community in institutional improvement, diversification of capital sources, green technology, clean technology, governance and human resources.

The Prime Minister hoped that businesses and associations continue to accompany and support Vietnam in the process of rapid recovery and sustainable development with the spirit ofmutual support, harmonious benefits and shared risks. He assigned relevant ministries, sectors and agencies to study, collect, response and resolve rational opinions and recommendations at the Forum./.
