Minister Nguyen Chi Dung receives the US Ambassador to Vietnam

Congratulating Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper on his appointment as the US Ambassador to Vietnam, Minister Dung believed that the ambassador will excellently fulfill his term of office in Vietnam to help bolster the Vietnam-US relationship in a more comprehensive, strategic, practically, substantive and effective manner.

Vietnam-US’s growing ties has achieved positive results but it remains modest and has yet to match potential and the expectation of the two countries’ leaders. The two sides need to further promote economy, trade and investment, developing two-way trade towards sustainability.

The MPI is presiding to develop the National Green Growth action plan for the 2021-2030 period to realize Vietnam’s commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050 at COP26. This is a challenge but also a great opportunity for Vietnam, so the country wishes to receive the companionship and support of the international community, including the US in terms of experience, technology and finance.

For his part, Ambassador Marc Evans Knapper thanked Minister Dung for taking time to welcome him, lauding the achievements of Vietnam over the past time. He vowed utmost to nuture the relations between Vietnam and the US as well as between the MPI and US embassy in an increasingly fruitful manner.

The ambassador spoke highly of the MPI’s important role in implementing development cooperation strategies with the US, bringing benefits to both governments as well as business communities. Many US businesses are now having effective activities in Vietnam, believing that there will be great opportunities for cooperation and development in the near future.

The US has launched the Vietnam Low Emission Energy Program (V-LEEP II) with a commitment to supporting and promoting more financial resources from businesses, private sector to participate in various fields such as green economy, renewable energy, clean energy, supply chain and environmental protection.

The MPI has coordinate with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to implement the program to support enterprises’ digital transformation for the 2021-2025 period, assisting businesses to effectively embark on digital transformation. Minister Dung noted Vietnam hopes to receive support from the US in science and technology, innovation, human resource training, etc./.
