The economic recovery and development of Vietnam still faces many challenges in terms of human resources quality, infrastructure, institutions and climate change, natural disasters and commercial disputes worldwide.

To achieve its ambition to become a high-income developed country by 2045 and realize its commitments to reach net zero emissions by 2050 at COP26, Vietnam gives priorities to promoting in-depth growth model, enhancing competitiveness and inclusion in the region, building the economic resilience to external shocks and optimizing the advantages of golden population period to develop infrastructure.

Minister Dung asked the WB to support Vietnam in rolling out new measures to overcome the middle-income trap as well as providing policy advice and strategic coordination. It is also anticipated that the WB will closely cooperate with Vietnamese agencies and localities to deploy sustainable development projects in the Mekong Delta, acting its role not only as an important partner in providing financial resources but also a policy advisor, supporting skills and experience in the national development.

WB Regional Vice President for EAP Manuela Ferro noted that the foreign private sectors consider Vietnam as a dynamic and advanced economy. The country has various opportunities to create economic recovery after the pandemic, minimize temporary shocks and implement fundamental reforms, ensuring sustainable development and effectiveness of the country in the future.

The WB is currently coordinating with the Vietnamese Government to provide advice in priority areas with a focus on investing for growth and responding to climate change. Vietnam’s strong commitments have been treasured by the international community, so the WB wishes to accompany Vietnam to realize its commitments and control international pressure in the climate change response, improving the country’s resilience as well as encouraging stakeholders to participate in the implementation process./.
