(MPI) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Japanese counterpart Kishida Fumio witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on innovation by MPI’s National Innovation Center (NIC), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) in Hanoi on May 1.

Accordingly, JCCI and JETRO will support NIC’s activities to develop startups and innovative companies of the two countries within the framework of the Vietnam-Japan Joint Initiative phase VIII, including: supporting Vietnamese and Japanese companies to closely collaborate; boosting cooperation between innovative companies, startups and investors; connecting the two countries’ companies; jointly organize events and exchanging information on innovation and startup between Vietnam and Japan.
NIC Director Vu Quoc Huy informed that Vietnam develops an innovation network that gather experts and intellectuals working in developed countries worldwide such as Japan, Australia, Germany, the US, Taiwan (China), Republic of Korea, etc. Particularly, Vietnam has established the Vietnam-Japan Open Innovation Network (VJOIN) in Japan in order to develop innovative activities of worldwide experts to jointly create and apply new technologies and business models, towards Vietnam’s development goals
At the same day seminar on the two countries’ cooperation in technology renovation, digital transformation and supply chain diversification, JETRO Chairman Sasaki Nobuhiko affirmed that JETRO will promote dialogue with the ministry of: Planning and Investment, Industry and Trade, Information and Communications on three areas of technology renovation, digital transformation and supply chain diversification; contributing to further improve the investment environment and promote coordination between the two countries’ businesses.
As an affiliated unit of the MPI, NIC aims to support and develop Vietnam’s startup and innovation ecosystem, contributing to innovating the growth model on the basis science and technology.
JETRO acts as the focal point of innovation in Japan (under the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry - METI). JETRO promotes trade cooperation and currently implements JETRO DX Project with the goal of connecting Japanese and developing countries’ enterprises worldwide; supports startup projects to solve social problems by using digital solutions; promotes digital technology.
JCCI is an association representing more than 2.000 Japanese businesses in Vietnam, making contribution to improve the business environment and economic development of Vietnam; promoting the Vietnam-Japan friendship and exchanging enterprises between the two countries./.
