The special Vietnam-US relations is foundation to promote investment and trade
(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung received Vice President, Global Public Policy of Meta; Co-founder and CEO of The Asia Group and chaired a roundtable conference on investment cooperation between Vietnam and the US within the framework of Vietnamese Prime Minister’s working trip to the US to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit.

At the meeting between MPI Minister and Meta Vice President, Meta and the National Innovation Center (NIC) signed a cooperation agreement on innovation and digital transformation for businesses to support Vietnam’s economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meta commits to supporting NIC in numerous activities, especially environmental innovation projects for the Mekong region, including Laos and Cambodia with the goal of making NIC to become the innovation center of the Mekong Sub-region.

Currently, Meta is coordinating with the General Department of Taxation to complete the tax declaration and payment for Vietnamese corporation. Meta hopes to affirm its presence in Vietnam and supports the country in digital transformation for businesses and people.

Minister Nguyen Chi Dung highly regarded Meta for its activities in Vietnam and suggested Meta to continue to be a digital enterprise in accordance with the laws of Vietnam, effectively contributing to innovation and digital transformation activities in Vietnam.

On May 13th 2022, Minister Dung received Mr. Nirav S. Patel, Co-Founder and CEO of The Asia Group. The minister lauded TAG for its cooperation and asked US enterprises to help Vietnamese ones in capacity enhancement.

He also congratulated TAG on the opening of representative office in Vietnam and suggested that TAG continue to encourage businesses of the US to invest in renewable energy, technology in Vietnam, focusing on the areas of the US’s strength such as corporate governance, training and technology transfer.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment and TAG jointly held a roundtable conference on investment cooperation between Vietnam and the US at the same day. Attending the conference were 10 US enterprises that have potential to expand their business and pay attention to invest in Vietnam such as Google, UPS, Blackstone, GGV Capital, Ford Motors, GE, Gen X Energy, Samsung, Boeing and some large-scale Vietnamese firms.

The US enterprises are paying high attention to Vietnamese market and wishing to invest in many fields like renewable energy, electric vehicles, infrastructure, electricity & electronics, high technology and environment - society. They also hope to help Vietnam achieve its commitment towards net-zero emissions by 2050 made at UN COP26, affirming their appreciation towards the investment environment and competitive advantages from other countries in the region.

Minister Dung stressed the US-Vietnam relations develop in a harmonious and sustainable manner especially after this visit by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. This is a platform to bolster investment and trade towards mutual benefits.

The US - the world’s economic powerhouse, currently ranks 11th out of 139 countries investing in Vietnam and has yet to match potential and strengths of the two countries. It is anticipated to attract US projects with higher quality and added value; using less resources and energy but still make further contribution.

FDI enterprises are also expected to be in line with the economy and development of Vietnam and the country wants to exchange views with US investors on long-term strategic cooperation.

As a focal point of investment management, the MPI is committed to accompanying US investors to create favorable conditions for effective, sustainable and long-term business activities in Vietnam. Vietnam is affirmed to continuing to implement synchronous solution to create a fair and transparent business environment and develop supply chains./.
