Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong receives ADB Management Team

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Phuong highly valued international and ADB cooperation in the process of innovation and development of Vietnam. The MPI acknowledged ADB’s close and effective coordination in consulting and developing analytical reports on the macroeconomic situation, providing annual reports to assert the country’ socio-economic situation. The report has helped the MPI synthesize information and advise the Government to develop proper mechanisms and policies.

The deputy minister thanked ADB for ADB-funded investment projects and its support of techniques in finance in mobilizing resources that in line with the country’s orientations and priorities in socio-economic development.

The MPI has coordinated with partners from six development banks and received effective cooperation from ADB to implement the planning for development of the Mekong Delta region for the 2021-2030 period with vision towards 2050. ADB has chosen infrastructure development projects among key ones in the Mekong Delta and follow to the laws of Vietnam. Deputy minister Phuong said that Vietnamese government calls for investment in the Mekong Delta region not only to respond to climate change but also to promote the country’s rapid and sustainable development.

The ADB’s Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) 2023-2026 for Vietnam lays out a program of priority activities to enhance the effective ADB-Vietnam cooperation as well as seek to new cooperation models. Vietnam pledges to cooperate with ADB office in Vietnam to soon complete procedures for the CPS.

The potential of cooperation between ADB and Vietnam is growing positively, many fields are match with ADB’s orientation and Vietnam’s demand like Vietnam’ commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 at COP26 and transition to renewable energy, clean energy; investment for a breakthrough in economic infrastructure to catch up, go along and get ahead. Vietnam is accelerating the adjustment and simplification of investment procedures for foreign investors to soon realize proposed projects.

Thanking Deputy Minister Phuong for the information of the two sides’ cooperation, Mr. Takahiro Yasui said that the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical conflicts have affected the global economy. He is impressed on the economic recovery and development package by the Vietnamese government to respond current challenges, and pledged utmost to support Vietnam through the CPS in the 2023-2026 period.

ADB prioritises financial support to enhance climate change resilience and adaptation as well as infrastructure projects in Vietnam. ADB hopes to step up cooperation with Vietnam to make more contribution in the country’s development, Takahiro said.

Deputy Minister Phuong agreed with Takahiro’s sharing and asked ADB to provide technical assistance and favorable concessional loans for Vietnam./.
