Improving resources for blue economy development
(MPI) - Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc asked the World Bank (WB) to help Vietnam in designing policies and mobilizing resources for blue economy development while receiving Mona Sur, Director of the Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy in the East Asia and Pacific region, WB on June 10.

Deputy Minister Ngoc praised the technical support of WB for Vietnam to access to international finance, respond to climate change and promote green growth.

Vietnam attaches importance to blue economy as the Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW on the strategy for the sustainable development of Viet Nam’s blue economy by 2030, with a vision to 2045 was adopted. Having a long coastline and specific development strategy will help fully exploit untapped potential in developing blue sea economy. As the focal point and management agency for natural resources, the Ministry Planning and Investment closely coordinates with the WB to implement assigned tasks to toll out policies for sustainable blue economy development.

The deputy minister asked WB to help Vietnam in policies design, resources mobilization for blue economy development and its commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. Vietnam attaches importance to developing the blue economy and mobilizing resources for investment and development of marine infrastructure; focuses on inter-regional projects; develops coastal ecosystems and fully exploits advantages of the blue economy; uses climate finance funds’ potential for sustainable and green development.

The deputy minister hoped that the WB support Vietnam to perfect the policy framework for blue economy development, high-quality human resources training and international experience.

For her part, Mona Sur said that the WB is developing a comprehensive report that focus on climate change response, resilience enhancement, etc. This is the first step to realize Vietnam’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

Mona stressed that WB will continue to support mentioned areas and request the delegation to coordinate with the MPI. She raise new proposals to provide policies and institutional approaches that help Vietnam towards a sustainable growth path./.
