Minister Nguyen Chi Dung receives Singaporean Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry
(MPI) - Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hosted a reception for Tan See Leng, Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry in Hanoi on August 12.

At a reception for visiting Singaporean Minister Tan See Leng, Minister Dung said that the event is to review and announce outcomes and remaining obstacles of the 15th Vietnam-Singapore Economic Connectivity Ministers Meeting (CMM 15th) to successfully arrange the 16th CMM, which is expected to be held in Singapore in December 2022.

Highly valuating the strategic partnership and multi-faceted cooperation of Vietnam and Singapore, Minister Dung suggested the two ministries continue their close cooperation to fully tap available potential and practical development solutions. Notably both sides place importance to innovation and actively roll out some activities, such as Vietnam has established a working group to boost Vietnam-Singapore cooperation in innovation with the participation of 19 representatives. The working group has suggested some orientations on capacity building for innovation; research activities and cooperation on smart cities and strengthening business connectivity.

The minister used this occasion to suggest both sides consider innovation as one of priority areas; jointly establish the Vietnam-Singapore innovation centre that placed at the National Innovation Centre (NIC), under the MPI and create favorable conditions for the working groups exchange ideas.

The minister urged the two sides to support each other at multilateral forums, thus together making contributions to the settlement of common issues of the international community, especially those related to green growth, renewable energy development and commitments to reach net-zero emissions.

For his part, Singaporean Minister Tan See Leng said that Singapore is ready to collaborate with Vietnam to implement common commitments. He highly agreed to establish a Vietnam-Singapore innovation centre; suggested the two sides jointly build the centre to call on private and state-owned enterprises to take participation and serve as a bridge for the two governments.

Tan affirmed to call for Singaporean investors to invest in the Vietnamese market in order to bring Singapore-Vietnam cooperation to become a successful model in the ASEAN. He thanked the Ministry of Planning and Investment for their support to remove difficulties and obstacles for Singaporean businesses operating in Vietnam./
