(MPI) - Minister Nguyen Chi Dung hosted a reception for Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura in Hanoi on August 23.

Minister Dung expressed his wish that during his tenure, Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Nikorndej Balankura will make active contributions to enhance Vietnam-Thailand relations into a new level.
Vietnam and Thailand share numerous similarities in economic trends and keep developing dynamically in the region. The minister held that ample room still remains for Vietnam-Thailand economic, trade and political collaboration, asking both sides pay attention to the socio-economic development, striving to raise two-way trade and connect the two economies.
He affirmed that Vietnam welcomes, encourages and creates optimal conditions for Thai enterprises to invest and do business in the fields where Thailand has advantages and Vietnam holds potential such as processing and manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, particularly renewable energy. Vietnam has made substantial actions to shift economic growth model into developing clean and renewable energy.
The host pledged that the Ministry of Planning and Investment will continue to coordinate closely with Thai Embassy to support and remove obstacles for Thai enterprises as well as ensure investment promotion activities. He said the ministry will assist in facilitating all-level visits, especially those at high-level and preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) scheduled to take place in Thailand in November 2022.
Nikorndej, for his part, expressed his impression of Vietnam’s achievements in COVID-19 control as well as in socio-economic recovery and development, and noted Vietnam is an attractive and safe destination for many foreign investors. He thanked the Vietnamese Government and MPI for their support for Thai investors doing business in the country.
Accumulated to July 2022, Thailand has 662 valid projects in Vietnam with a total investment of over 13 billion USD, ranking 9th out of 139th countries/territories investing in Vietnam. The ambassador said, Thailand aims to become top five largest foreign investors in Vietnam and affirms their effective implementation of renewable energy projects, contributing to the socio-economic development of Vietnam.
The diplomat vowed to work hard to contribute to further developing the friendship and enhance strategic partnership between the two countries. He informed Thailand had set up Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam (ThaiCham) to promote trade and investment between the two countries in general; proposed the host to establish a working group to facilitating and protecting Thai investors in Vietnam./.
