(MPI) - Within the framework of the 2023 Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition (VIIE 2023), Google and the National Innovation Centre (NIC), under Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) organised a conference in Hanoi on October 28 to summarise the Google Career Certificates in 2022-2023 phase and announce scholarships for 2024.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong said that NIC and Google jointly launch the programme to enhance the digital skills and knowledge of the Vietnamese digital workforce.

He spoke highly of many outstanding achievements of the programme in narrowing the digital gap in Vietnam, and providing learning and development opportunities for 20 thousand people. More than 5 thousand students have already completed at least one course of the programme and successfully received professional certification from Google, demonstrating the success of the programme.

Sapna Chadha, Vice President of Google Asia-Pacific said that Vietnam is one of the fastest growing digital economy in Southeast Asia, and it is expected to see further growth prospects in the time ahead. Google is committed to working closely with NIC to enhance digital skills for Vietnamese people.

Sapna affirmed that based on support of the MPI and other government agencies, the Google Career Certificates has been successfully implemented, adding her belief that the partnership would create significant value for the Vietnamese labour market and help students and jobseekers study and succeed in the near future.

The Google Career Certificates programme, a non-profit project by Google in Vietnam, sponsored by the National Innovation Centre (NIC), and is part of a series of projects and activities by Google to enhance the digital skills and knowledge of the Vietnamese workforce.

After completing each course, learners will receive globally recognised professional certifications from Google in various fields, including IT Support, Data Analytic, Project Management, Digital Marketing & E-commerce, and UX Design, through the online learning platform www.coursera.org.

The programme will offer eight courses, including five courses launched during the 2022-2023 phase, and three new courses: cybersecurity, advanced data analytics, and business intelligence. These courses will be available for free until December 31, 2024.

In 2022-2023 period, NIC and Google provided 20,000 scholarships to students, who are officials, lecturers, students in universities, colleges and workers, and there are 83 universities and colleges participating in the programme.

On this occasion, Google and NIC announced to offer 40,000 scholarships for Vietnamese student and workers, including many disadvantaged people, to strengthen their professional skills.

Google Career Certificates will continue to take part in the growth path of Vietnam’s information technology industry. Providing learning courses will develop and enhance the capacity of students. The programme will help build a modern and innovative Vietnam, where everyone has chance to grow and contribute to the nation’s prosperity./.
