Deputy Director of Enterprise Development Agency, under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) Nguyen Duc Trung said that the ministry, in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), through the USAID Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises (LinkSME) and within the framework of the Digital Transformation Centre Vietnam (DTC-VN) project funded by the German Government and GIZ, has carried out a programme to support businesses in digital transformation in the 2021-2025 period. The programme focuses raising awareness, building databases, tools, documents and platforms to enhance awareness for businesses and develop an ecosystem to assist businesses in digital transformation.

He said that there are positive changes in enterprises’ awareness of the need for digital transformation. Many enterprises have entered the stage of digitising data, standardising processes, applying digital technology and moving towards digital transformation on a broader scale. These are outstanding results recorded from the efforts of enterprises along with the support of the entire political system to help business accelerating digital transformation process.

The programme to support businesses in digital transformation in the 2021-2025 period aims to support businesses in digital transformation by applying digital technology to improve their production and business efficiency, and create new values. About 1,500 enterprises self-assessed to be ready for digital transformation so far, over 10,000 enterprises in 40 localities were trained directly about digital transformation, and more than 50 businesses have received 1:1 coaching and intensive training to become typical successful digital transformation models. A network of experts including at least 100 organisations and individuals was established to consult, provide solutions to promote digital transformation for businesses, and support digital platform development.

Dennis Quennet, Director Sustainable Economic Development at GIZ Viet Nam said that digital and green transformation requires the ready and proactive approach of the all levels to turn challenges into opportunities, and also the support and companionship of businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises, innovative businesses and startups.

He also proposed for continued coordination between the public and private sectors, and said the Government should create a favorable business and investment environment and encourage the use of environmental-friendly business models that respond to climate change associated with green growth, towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

GIZ has been actively supporting Vietnam in the process of green and digital transformation, Quennet noted, expressing his hope to continue receive the ministry’s coordination in creating digital business models and materialising socio-economic development goals./.
