(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung received Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann in Hanoi on October 27 to discuss cooperation between the MPI and OECD.

Minister Dung welcomed Cormann’s visit to Vietnam to attend the OECD - Southeast Asia Ministerial Forum with the theme “Sustainable and Quality Investment: New Momentum for OECD- Southeast Asia Partnership”, and expressed his thanks for the OECD’s coordination and research, technical support for Vietnam, in particular for the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).
Vietnam is facing numerous challenges, he said, adding that with the Government’s drastic direction of the international community’s support, including those of the OECD, Vietnam has gradually recovered and posted growth.
Vietnam highly values the OECD’s partnership and support for Vietnam in building policies, including the Multi-dimensional review of Vietnam (MDR) and the OECD Economic Surveys: Vietnam 2023.
The minister called on the OECD to assist Vietnam in grasping new development trends, promoting cooperation activities and attracting investment to build a comprehensive ecosystems that in accordance with the country’s policy of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) towards selective models, such as science and technology, innovation, semiconductor, digital transformation, green, digital, circular and knowledge economy, sustainable development, response to climate change, renewable energy, green finance, green hydrogen, high-quality human resource development and financial centre establishment.
He also sought the OECD’s experience exchange to help the country restructuring the economy and transforming growth model towards an inclusive, rapid and sustainable development, green and sustainable economy, and realising carbon neutrality by 2050.
Cormann, in reply, affirmed Vietnam is an import partner of the OECD, an committed to continuing helping the country realising its strategic targets in the time ahead.
He looked forwards to a more comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the OECD, and expressed his belief that Vietnam will continue doing its best to attract high-quality investment that meet new standards.
Cormann also expressed his impressions on Vietnam’s economic achievements, and said the country still has many opportunities to realise its development goals by 2030 and 2045.
Minister Dung asked for the OECD’s support to efficiently adapt to new standards, particularly the global minimum tax, as well as implement energy transition and reduce emissions to fulfil its commitments of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The MPI is pledged to create all optimal conditions for the OCED to do research and work, he noted, and suggested it to continuing collaborating with the ministry in develop the report on reviewing corporate governance of state-owned enterprises and a report on assessing foreign investment quality in Vietnam./.
