Do Manh Khoi, Director of the Department of Cooperative Economics, stated that Vietnam has received support from the Global Affairs Department of Canada in promoting the cooperative sector through various technical cooperation projects between the two countries.
Collective economies and cooperatives play a vital role in job creation, sustainable poverty reduction, and improving the material and spiritual lives of people, especially in mountainous and difficult areas, driving sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam.
He proposed continued close coordination between the two countries to exchange experiences, international information and knowledge, and propose programs where both sides have potential for cooperation in developing effective and sustainable cooperative models integrating gender equality, climate change, and environmental protection.
Canada could assist Vietnam in developing programmes and plans to disseminate knowledge and legal policies on collective economics and cooperatives, enhancing the capacity and awareness of management staff, members, and workers of cooperatives and cooperative alliances. He also suggested building plans for developing the cooperative sector towards digital transformation and innovation, and sharing expertise to raise cooperative members' awareness in management, operation, production linked with carbon emission reduction responsibilities, climate change combat, and application of green and clean technologies.
Patricia Pena, Deputy Minister in charge of Partnerships for Innovation, Global Affairs Department of Canada, thanked Khoi for sharing information on cooperation opportunities with Vietnam.
She noted that Vietnam and Canada are important partners cooperating in various potential areas. Cooperatives are places where people work together, connect, and collaborate for development, promoting peace.
Despite differences in weather, climate, and people, Canada and Vietnam share similarities in focusing on stability and peace for continued economic development. Pena expressed that both countries need to maintain their cooperative relationship to promote increasingly developing trade and investment cooperation./.
