Currently, Vietnam has more than 930,000 operating businesses, about 14,400 cooperatives and over 5 million business households. They are the core force in creating products and goods, making important contribution to economic growth, creating jobs, reducing poverty and raising the standard of living. The force of enterprises and entrepreneurs currently contributes about 60% of the national GDP, 85% of the total labor force, and 98% of total import-export turnover.
Minister Dung hailed that such encouraging results are thanks to the efforts of the entire political system and the business community. The Government and the Prime Minister always accompany businesses, accelerate institutional and administrative reforms, and improve the investment and business environment to support business development.
A latest survey showed that the business situation remains optimistic and their confidence continue to grow, with the rate of businesses assessing the macro-economy as positive and very positive is 5 times higher month-on-month.
However, according to the minister, most of enterprises are small ones, and the competitiveness, operation, business capacity and management level are still limited. Businesses still have “seasonal” mindset, lacking a long-term strategic vision. The number of enterprises entrenching supply chain is still low, and the connectivity, cooperation, and opportunities from international economic integration and the fourth industrial revolution have not been fully exploited.
Minister Dung stated that the world has witnessed major change, the emergence of new industries, and policy changes of major economies leading to shifts in investment flows, and adjustments in the structure of trade and investment. This pose both risks and challenges but, at the same time, brings new opportunities and fortunes to countries.
The new context also requires new directions in the country’s economy development, such as green and sustainable development, requiring resources to attract investment and create breakthroughs for pioneering industries, developing science, technology and innovation, and promoting new growth drivers coming from the circular economy, digital economy, and other new economic models.
Minister Dung urged the business community make efforts together with the Government and the Prime Minister to explore new solutions and seize opportunities. Large enterprises need to take the lead in doing difficult and new tasks, solving national-level problems to create momentum for economic growth and chance for SMEs to strengthen their capacity in other fields.
The minister expressed his belief that in the current context, Vietnamese entrepreneurs and businesses will grow stronger to build a self-reliant and powerful country. The success of entrepreneurs and businesses is the country’s success./.
