The National Action Plan to implement the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda was issued by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 622/QD-TTg dated May 10, 2017 (NAP 2030). NAP 2030 serves as an important basis for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Vietnam.
Le Viet Anh, Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Planning and Investment shared Vietnam’s achievements in implementing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. Notably, policies and general guidelines for the implementation of the SDGs have been issued relatively comprehensively and synchronously, significantly contributing to the localization and implementation of the SDGs in Vietnam.
The implementation of the SDGs has mobilised active participation and contributions, becoming a common task for all stakeholders, including government agencies, social organisations, non-governmental organisations, business community, international organizations, development partners, and citizens.
Furthermore, Vietnam has achieved certain successes in many goals, which have been recognized and highly regarded by the international community, such as SDG 1, SDG 6, SDG 9, SDG 10, SDG 16, and SDG 17.
Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam stated that the mid-term review of NAP 2030 is an important opportunity to learn from experiences, share lessons, and set more focused directions, as well as mobilize participation and resources from stakeholders in terms of finance, technical expertise, and knowledge.
She affirmed that the UN will continue to support Vietnam in accelerating the implementation of the SDGs, and achieving the goal of becoming a modern, high-income economy by 2045, and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
Santiago Alonso Rodriguez, First Secretary for Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Vietnam, expressed his pleasure for the long-standing cooperation between German agencies and the MPI, especially in the development of the mid-term review report.
He noted that Vietnam has made encouraging achievements in implementing the SDGs, though it still faces many challenges; provided recommendations such as integrating SDG goals into socio-economic development plans and strategies to accelerate implementation. Germany will continue to be a reliable and enduring partner for Vietnam on the path ahead, Rodriguez emphasized./.
