(MPI) - Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung hosted a reception in Hanoi on March 19 for a business delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) led by the President & CEO of the council Ted Osius.

Minister Dung highly valued the investment and business activities of the US businesses, including members of the USABC. The meeting served as an important annual dialogue in the context of the comprehensive strategic partnership established last year; asking US firms to share their new investment plans as well as facing difficulties, obstacles, and policy recommendations in the coming time.

Representatives of several US companies and corporations operating in areas such as aviation and defense, technology, energy, manufacturing, agriculture and food, financial services, healthcare and investment funds (including AES Vietnam, Meta, Ge Vernova, Boeing, SAP Asia Pte Ltd, KKR, Atmo, FedEx Express, Ford Vietnam and GE Vietnam) shared information on their investment and business situations, future plans, and they expressed their confidence in the Vietnamese market.

Minister Dung spoke highly of candid sharing about investment commitments in Vietnam in the new fields, as well as the policy proposals and recommendations.

Vietnam has set specific goals to become a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030, to become a developed, high-income country by 2045 and to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. With these ambitious goals, Vietnam needs the participation and support of the business community, including the US ones.

The minister shared information about the country’s priority areas such as green growth, ESG (Environment - Social - Governance) application, innovation, renewable energy, high technology, semiconductor chips and international financial centres.

He suggested US businesses pay attention and expand investments in Vietnam, towards bringing mutual benefits and elevating the investment partnership to match the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership. The MPI will always care and provide utmost support for foreign businesses, creating the most favourable investment and business environment.

For his part, Osius stated a large number of US firms joining the delegation to visit Vietnam since the recent upgraded relations have demonstrated their interest in Vietnam’s investment and business environment. He mentioned that USABC looks forward to investing and doing business in Vietnam, especially the Vietnam-US comprehensive strategic partnership is a good premise for businesses to invest and develop.

USABC President hailed Vietnam’s policies to welcome foreign investors as well as priority areas such as the operation goals of the MPI’s National Innovation Center (NIC) and the drafts scheme of manpower development for the semiconductor industry till 2030, with a vision to 2045 with the goal of training 50,000 engineers by 2030./.
