(MPI) - Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong worked with a delegation of the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), Taiwan (China) led by Professor Edward Yi Chang, Head of the NYCU’s International College of Semiconductor Technology (ICST) in Hanoi on April 16.

Welcoming Edward and the delegation to work with the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Deputy Minister Dong appreciated the fact that NYCU and its member have chosen Vietnam to cooperate and develop the chip and semiconductor industry.

Deputy Minister Dong shared with the guest about the development orientation of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, and suggested the cooperation focus on promoting innovation and human resource training in this area. He also underlined Vietnam’s high determination to integrate into the global semiconductor value chain, adding that the country is currently building the “Human resource development in the semiconductor industry until 2030, with a vision to 2045” scheme, targeting the training of 50,000 engineers by 2030.

Vietnam looks forward to receiving the support and cooperation from international organisations, businesses, and universities with strengths in the semiconductor industry to develop the ecosystem and human resources in this industry.

He hoped that NYCU will continue to pay attention and coordinate with the MPI’s National Innovation Centre (NIC) to implement the scheme, research to help Vietnam develop training centre in the semiconductor industry, and provide training programmes and scholarships to Vietnamese students studying at NYCU.

He also suggested NYCU to select excellent Vietnamese students in the field of semiconductors to study Taiwan (China), research and invest in educational facilities in Vietnam such as small-scale training centre for the semiconductor industry, and continue to introduce Taiwanese businesses and foreign ones to seek investment and business opportunities in Vietnam.

For his part, Prof Eward said he is expressed by Vietnam’s plans in developing human resources in the semiconductor industry. He provided some information such as the situation of training, research and development in the semiconductor industry, and suggested some ideas to cooperate with Vietnam in this industry.

He affirmed his readiness to coordinate with Vietnam, through the MPI in the semiconductor industry by having specific cooperation plans, contributing to stepping up the cooperation between Vietnam and Taiwan (China) in this potential area.

Prof Eward also said that his working trip aims to award master s scholarships in semiconductors to Vietnamese students in 2024. The training programme will take place at NYCU’s ICST, which is one of Taiwan’s six major semiconductor institutes.

On this occasion, the MPI’s NIC inked a memorandum of understanding with the NYCU (Taiwan) to concretise cooperation plans between the two sides./.
