(MPI) - The Coordinating Council for the Southeast Region’s third meeting took place on May 5 under the chairing of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the council. Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, Vice Chairman of the council also attended the conference.

The recent approved master planning for the southeast region for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision until 2050 shows the Government’s determined guidance in implementing the tasks and solutions outlined by the Politburo in Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW dated October 7, 2022 regarding the socio-economic development, ensure of national defense and security of the region by 2030, with a vision until 2050. This plan serves as a legal basis for ministries, sectors, and localities to deploy the region’s key programmes and projects during the planning period.
According to Minister Dung, it is essential to focus on major specific aspects to successfully achieve the planning objectives. Firstly, the planning’s operation must be conducted openly and transparently in accordance with legal regulations to attract wide participation of both domestic and international economic entities.
Secondly, there needs the renovation of mindset and dynamism, creativity in governance and administration at all levels, leveraging science and technology, innovation, and high-quality human resources as the driving forces for the region’s development.
Thirdly, the Regional Coordinating Council and relevant ministries should enhance their roles and responsibilities in proposing to the Prime Minister and competent authorities on specific mechanisms and policies for regional development.
Fourthly, there should be resource allocation to complete a modern, synchronized infrastructure system, including speeding up the progress of national important projects, such as the major expressways, the Ho Chi Minh City Beltway 3, Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the first phase of Long Thanh International Airport, and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau railway.
Fifthly, investment should be targeted to develop the Southern region into a leading economic hub of the country and Southeast Asia, developing economic corridors to expand development space and creating a synchronised linkage among localities in the region.
In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underlined the need for the closely adherence to the Party’s guidelines and the State’s laws, ensuring compliance and consistency in the implementation of the plan. This should align with the overall national, sectoral, regional, and local planning.
Priority should be given to key projects that have a direct impact on socio-economic development with significant spillover effects and international connectivity, including new infrastructure projects like the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh expressway, Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh, and enhancements in rail and waterway infrastructure.
The focus should also be on developing human resources, attracting talents, promoting innovation, especially in semiconductor labor, research, and application of science and technology.
He also underscored the importance of cultural and social development, improving life’s quality, creating a healthy living environment for residents, enhancing administrative reform, improving the business and investment climate, promoting investment, and preparing key projects to attract investors, especially strategic ones./.
